Getting SMART About Your RTI Plan Preconference Workshop
How do you decide where to focus your RTI plan? How do you know it is working? Having an RTI plan is one thing; it’s quite another to have
a SMART (Strategic and Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Results-based, and Time-bound) plan and a process for implementing and monitoring
RTI effectiveness.
The SMART goal process is an essential strategy for ensuring that all students are achieving according to plan. It is a focused,
systematic way for schools and school-based teams to implement their RTI plans collaboratively, with a high degree of teacher ownership.
Using the SMART goal process, teams of teachers examine assessment data, establish goals, and research and implement new instructional
practices aimed at raising student performance. As a result, the plan is implemented and the implementation is monitored and improved.
Participants should bring school-based or classroom assessment data to try out the process using real-time information to focus and build
a SMART goal.
This Workshop is perfect for teachers, principals, instructional coaches, psychologists, and directors of curriculum, instruction, and
professional development.
By the end of the day, participants will know:
- A process that will support implementing and monitoring RTI plans
- How to analyze data to create a goal and a plan that is strategically focused on specific student needs
- New skills for running effective meetings aimed at instructional improvement
Here’s what educators are saying about the SMART goal process:
