David A. Levine is a teacher, trainer, facilitator, author, and musician who has made an indelible impact on students, teachers, and parents throughout the United States and abroad since 1984. David’s work in professional development and student training focuses on creating emotional safety in the classroom and school, strengthening and sharing cultural experience, making healthy systems changes, building leadership skills, creating initiatives that build community, and designing and implementing an empathy-focused curriculum. David has taught elementary and middle school, and he was the chief trainer for the U.S. Department of Education’s Northeast Regional Center for Safe and Drug-Free Schools for four years.
David is internationally renowned for using music as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue. His embedded professional development model, the School of Belonging, was implemented for urban youth in four Bronx schools in New York City.
David’s workshops offer the tools to create caring classrooms that foster empathy and inclusion. The workshops also provide an in-depth approach to creating an emotionally safe learning community. Using the strategies illustrated in his books Building Classroom Communities: Strategies for Developing a Culture of Caring; Teaching Empathy: A Blueprint for Caring, Compassion, and Community; and The School of Belonging Plan Book, David helps workshop participants design educational environments geared to the individuality and potential of each student.
