The Voices of Solution Tree
Indianapolis, Indiana
“Surprisingly BIG. . . and in a good way.”
—Dwayne Marshall, school counselor, Center Grove Elementary, Indiana
“An educational feast!”
—Maria Nielsen, principal, Millville Elementary, Utah
“You can’t help but walk away with a different perspective and the strategies to implement change on Monday.”

The mission of Solution Tree is simple: to spread the innovative ideas of our authors to those who are most invested in our students’ futures.
And so authorspeak was born: a three-day event that happens once a year, where educators from all disciplines, from any part of the world, gather to fully engage with the ideas of our authors and each other. It’s an event where conversation is crucial and new thought-leaders come forward. It’s an event for those who believe that things could somehow be better—in the classroom, in the district—but who understand that whatever “better” means, it won’t come along by itself; it will require a supportive community of global proportion.
We invite you to Indianapolis this October to step up to the cutting edge of learning. You’ll join forces with the exceptional individuals—including keynoter Sir Ken Robinson—who have challenged the “norms” of education and have discovered powerful new paths to student achievement because of it.
The breadth of content covered at authorspeak is found nowhere else. It’s based only on work that’s been published in the last two years and covers today’s most critical topics—from 21st century skills to instruction, leadership, common core, and everything in between. authorspeak offers a community for every kind of educator. You’ll have a chance to attend and choose from more than 80 author-led sessions. Your agenda is yours to control: if you come with a team, you can move through the event together. Or, you can split up and regroup at the end of each day to share new ideas.
Fuel. Plan. Inspire. That’s the authorspeak experience. You’ll walk away empowered with new strategies, new ideas, and a new and an energetic network of educators to support you on your journey forward. Learn even more at authorspeak2012.com.

Keynote Presentation
Sir Ken Robinson
Education systems worldwide are being reformed to meet the challenges of the 21st century. As a respected adviser to governments in Europe, Asia, and the United States, Sir Ken Robinson will argue that many countries are pushing reforms in the wrong direction. Drawing from his groundbreaking book, Out of Our Minds: Learning to Be Creative, he'll explain why too many are locked into a model of education shaped by the Industrial Revolution and a narrow idea of academic ability.
He'll focus on vital questions such as: Why is it essential to promote creativity? What's the problem? Why do so many adults think they’re not creative? Most children are buzzing with ideas—so what happens to them as they grow up? What should be done? Is everyone creative or just a select few? Can creativity be developed? If so, how?
By exploring these questions, you'll see why we'll need a radical change in our thinking to educate all students to meet the extraordinary challenges of living and working in the 21st century.
Takeaways include:
- How education wastes more talent than it saves
- The three core objectives of 21st century education
- Why we're all smarter than we think
- What schools and colleges should do, and how governments should help
